Creek & Greenway

Sited along Richland Creek, Belle Meade Village will restore the creek and create a new creekside greenway with six acres of public green space. This park and greenway establish a pedestrian-friendly connection to McCabe Park and Nashville's broader greenway system.

The Creek Restoration

As part of the construction of Belle Meade Village, stream bank restoration activities will result in improvements to approximately 586 linear feet of Richland Creek and 193 linear feet of Sugartree Creek, two streams through west Nashville that were once heavily polluted by industrial and municipal discharges.

The project will restore the Sugartree and Richland Creek streambanks, reintroducing vegetation with the goal of protecting water quality and reestablishing a healthy ecosystem.

A major component includes the removal of commercial structures, which have been built over these streams for over 50 years. Removing these structures will provide daylight to the streams for the first time in several decades, improving biology and function. Further stream restoration will occur through the removal of existing concrete armoring that has prevented erosion, the reshaping of the stream banks, and the implementation of a significant riparian buffer planting plan.

The Belle Meade Village greenway extension and viewing platform will highlight the natural beauty of and heighten community awareness for these two important west Nashville streams.
